" Your background shouldn’t be a barrier to realizing your dreams. You can make
any dream a reality if you’re willing to work hard at it."
— Jamail Larkins

From Flight Simulator to Aviation Pioneer:
The Story of Jamail Larkins
Jamail Larkins’ journey into aviation began with a video game. Growing up in Augusta, Georgia, he spent countless hours playing Flight Simulator, mastering the basics of flight long before stepping into a real cockpit. But a game wasn’t enough—he wanted the real thing. His first hands-on experience came through the Experimental Aviation Association’s Young Eagles Flights program, which offers free airplane rides to kids. That single flight ignited a passion that would shape his future.
At just 12 years old, Jamail began flight lessons, though his family could only afford a few hours per month. Determined to stay involved, he volunteered at airports, washing planes, taking out the trash, and jumping at any chance to fly whenever a pilot had an empty seat. When he learned he had to be 16 years old to fly solo in the U.S., he petitioned the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for an exemption—but was denied. Undeterred, he discovered that Canada allowed solo flights at 14 years old and set out to make it happen.
Reaching out to over 100 aviation companies for sponsorship, he faced more than 90 rejections before securing his first "yes." With their support, Jamail made history as one of the youngest American pilots to solo a Cessna 172 at just 14 years old. His growing aviation experience earned him national recognition.
By 18, he became the national spokesperson for the Young Eagles Flights program, advocating for youth aviation education. While attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, he was named the FAA’s first Ambassador for Aviation and Space Education, reinforcing his role as an industry leader. At just 21 years old, he launched an aircraft leasing business, further expanding his influence.
His achievements earned him national recognition, including being named Inc. Magazine’s No. 1 Entrepreneur Under 25, a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, and one of Goldman Sachs’ 100 Most Innovative Entrepreneurs. His contributions have been showcased at the Air & Space Smithsonian Museum, Wings Over the Rockies Museum, and the Franklin Institute, and he was even invited to testify before the United States Congress on the aviation industry’s workforce needs.
